Company History
In the mid-1800s, a shared quest for unsurpassed comfort, the best quality materials, and continued innovation brought George S. Stearns and Seth Foster together. They first started manufacturing cotton goods that were used in horse carriage upholstery, and then they moved to making hotel mattresses.
Stearns & Foster was officially founded in 1846 in Cincinnati, and it first produced cotton wadding then moved to mattresses, batting, and other related products. Over the years, the company grew and grew, and when it reached its peak in the 1970s, its Lockland factory employed more than 1,200 and produced 200 spring sets and mattresses on a day-to-day basis.
Since then, they have been making only good quality mattresses using the best materials, constantly improving and innovating. Stears & Foster Director of Marketing, Josh Loew, has mentioned that “Since 1846, Stearns & Foster has represented American innovation, craftsmanship and luxury.” The company expanded to non-woven textiles and insulation products in the mid 1980s, and in 1993, the bedding and mattress manufacturing line was purchased by Sealy corporation.
Today, Stearns & Foster is one of the signature brands under the umbrella of Tempur Sealey International, Inc., which is the world’s largest bedding provider. Aside from mattresses, the company manufacturers adjustable bases, pillows, and other sleep products under its world-famous brands.
